Introduction to Your Eva Grace

Hello! My name is Gracie Angaiak, I am a Yupik/Italian kid who has grown up in Alaska my whole twenty years of breathing. I specialize in competitive Hip hop, swinging on swing sets, and skipping rocks across the water. I’ve been a student at UAF for a little over two years now and will be graduating this summer with my Associates of Arts. At the moment I am working two jobs, one as a saleswoman and the other as a bookkeeper, but am aiming to start my own business this fall.

I am excited for this class simply because I love art. Art can be seen in so many different forms, it’s a creative way of communicating, even though half the time no one understands! In my immediate family alone there are eight artists! An Alaskan Native artist, two dancers, two musicians, a figure skater, a carpenter, and a mixed media artist. That’s a lot of different forms of expressing and communicating in one house! But, it reminds me of a little capsized example of the world. Because in this world there’s a lot of different artist’s expressing and communicating their perspectives on life. In regards to my relationship with art I would have to confess that I live with it. Whether that's staying up to 3 a.m. dancing, sitting in the park painting, or creating jewelry in my down time.

Above is a photo of one of the pieces I’ve created in the past. I was satisfied with this piece because it brought in beads as well as clay and created a very mixed media look. These earrings have inspired me to venture out into new ways of creating with clay jewelry.

Here's a video of my team and I performing at a gig in Anchorage...Sadly we didn't make the trick :(

Last but not least I had the wonderful opportunity to have some creative writing published in a Christian magazine called "Agape Review". If anyone wants to read how I use my words as art here's the link to my article!

  5. Wow, there are a lot of artists in your family. There is a lot of variety among them in the way they express their art. I love the earrings you shared a photo of. I often overlook how artistic fashion is because clothing and accessories are an essential part of life, but when I focus on them I am reminded of how expressive and unique they can be.
